I read the post about artificial toning and I wanted to ask what these toned coins are worth? Is there a way to classify them? I have Morgans with a brown toning to them, some with yellowish tone and the ever-popular rainbow, but when someone wants to buy one I have no idea what to ask.

Philney ... you may have well asked "why is there air?"

It all boils down to beauty in the eye of the beholder. I have seen common dates with very attractive rainbow toning sell on ebay for ridiculous prices. The question of artificial toning (AT) is another thing. It's sometimes hard to spot by the untrained eye but will earn a bodybag designation at the top TPG's. Then you can turn around and sell it on ebay raw for some ungodly price. There are several Morgan sellers on ebay that sell nothing but AT Morgans. Every one of them has the same color and variation ... in the real world that's like finding two snowflakes alike.

If you have some toned pieces, post pictures on the grading thread and the experts here will offer opinions on natural vs AT. Besides, we always like seeing pictures!

One of the many questions similar to how much is a pile of dirt worth, parts for my car worth, my old sweater, etc. There is really no price list for toned coins. There is really no price list for any coins, only guides. There is no manufacturers retail list prices for coins. They are what they are. Any coin is worth what someone will pay for them. As to toned coins you may want to check out web sites dedicated to them. Example: https://www.tonedcoins.org There are numerous web sites poping up about how to tone coins, how to clean off the toning, what they are worth, etc. Just like error coins, toned coins are becoming a thing of there own.

I love the rainbow type toning. Yes people will pay more for it. Common toning light gold or other more common toning not really a premium and I know people who will dip them to get rid of it. I bought 2 toned morgans off ebay 5 years ago supposedly a match set from end of roll of same date. One was nice and the other looked to have had the blow torch treatment. I payed a slightly higher price for them then a untoned morgan was worth.

The worth is dependent on eye appeal but most importantly, how much someone is willing to pay for a toned coin. I have been known to pay more than list for toners but I have a bit of knowledge to be able to tell NT from AT. I will not pay more if I suspect AT. Some people will and do not care how the toning happened. Some people will pay multiples of list for stunning toners. Just Google "Battle Creek Morgans" if you want to see some coins that go way over list due to toning

As you can see, the value of a toner is very subjective but having vivid colors is usually a nice way to get more for your coin.
