Hi Amac, I've seen that wedge-shaped mark on many Morgans. I believe it is a clash mark corresponding to the indentation at the bottom of Liberty's cap on the obverse. I see only slight rub on the high points of your coin and some darkening of the obverse field in front of Liberty. I think there is just enough rub to drop this coin into the high AU range: AU-55 or AU-58. I wonder if our Morgan specialists can assign a VAM number?

I would try, but I can't see AMACs pictures here at work. It strips photobucket, et al, pictures. If they were posted directly to the page, I could see them.

Amac, Jaobler's right about the clash on the reverse, it isn't that uncommon. I also agree on the grade he assigned. There seems to be very little luster on the coin as well, but that could just be the way the picture is taken.
If it is a true 7/8 TF, a close up of the tailfeathers would help make the attribution easier. From the pics it's hard to tell how many (if there are any) showing.

That's a standard 8TF, rather than a 7/8TF. All 8 tailfeathers are full. Would it be possible for you to post your excellent detail pics of the "F" in "OF," and of the areas where the eagle's wing feathers meet the legs on both sides? That will help us greatly with VAM attribution.

What I was asking for is the "F" in "OF," and the feathers where the wings meet the legs, the places which I've circled in your photo below. Those feathers are different among the differing dies used on 8TF Morgans, and clear pics of both sides will greatly aid in identifying what VAM it is. The F in OF looks to me to have a bulge near the bottom, and that is a characteristic of a specific reverse die shared by 11 VAM's. 9 of that 11 are very rare, carrying significant added value, and the other two are common. If that bulge is present, we'll switch to the obverse to nail down exactly what VAM it is.
