I was thinking it could have been a die polish but must have been a deep polish. there are no obvious continuous lines across, but there is a generalized rough surface across the entire face. Any ideas on grade? I am horrible at grading but I am going with AU55 to AU58 Report this Post to the Staff

dsfreeworld Pillar of the Community United States 4337 Posts	Posted 10/12/2015 07:52 am I'm just a bit confused on what the OP is referencing as "mottling" on this coin. That could be die rust that is causing that almost blotchy look on the obverse especially in the area around the engravers initials and LIBERT(Y). Either way, it looks FB to me as well and I suspect that this coin has a weak strike along the hair versus wear and that would be due to the degeneration of this particular obverse die pairing. This coin looks UNC and most likely an MS62. Report this Post to the Staff
