Reminds me of those chocolate coins that used to have a gold foil wrapper. They looked just like these prezzies.

I saw a "solid gold" sac dollar on ebay a couple of weeks ago, and it looked kind of brown. Your prez dollars might have made me look twice, but how long can they be exposed to air before they turn brown?

The edge lettering was the real turn-off to these. I might have collected them had it not been for that. Only reason I kept the Native American dollars because I already had the 2000-2008 so I thought I would just keep it going. IMO, I think these dollars should NOT have been a golden color, but rather the same as the SBA dollars. I really can't see how those could ever be confused for a quarter!!

I love scarfing up Kennedy halves, SBA, native american and Presidential dollars when I see the occasional one in a cash register and I ask the girls at the teller windows for loose ones. Then I leave them as tips in diners, for bartenders and for the maids in motel rooms. I was in Amelia Island where there is a lot of pirate themed businesses including an old bar that they say is the oldest in Florida and left the bar tender about $10 in different dollar coins. I made his night paying him with "pirate" looking dollar coins. I am going to pick up some $2 bills for tip money too again soon. That is also fun to leave behind.

They look so nice now. A pity it does not last. I am just glad the proof coins have held up.

They are awesome for tips Debrajc! I like to use them for the Mackinac Bridge toll (which is $4 each way).
jbuck, I agree about the proofs. I just busted open another mint set so 8 more coins into my change jar! 1 coin short of a roll... I might pick up a couple of proofs of the ones I am interested in though. At least those only have 1 mint mark so if they are in a holder I'd already know what they are.

I just found 3 of the 2008 pres. Proof coins and the 2008 Sac Proof someone dumped at the bank. The teller put them in her drawer because they were shinny!
