it was struck through a late-stage capped die, I do not see any signs of a brockage.

How does a capped die happen? Does that mean the planchet was the wrong size/too big and wrapped around the outside of the die?

The planchet was not too big, but just adhered to the die after striking. After creating some brockages, the pressure caused it to flow around the sides of the die. The bottom of the bottle cap-shaped coin became very thin, so the image could be transferred through onto your coin.

They stick to the hammer die and attach.

The sometime get thin and fall off or even rotate:

Or fall off or are removed when noticed:

Making a strange look coin when this happens.
Earlier struck through capped dies will show the reverse on the coins for a short time:

Late stage die cap:

Like the one the OP put up an image of.
