Hi All, I'm thinking of creating my own product, since I have been able to secure a reasonable quantity of the 2012 red poppy $2 coins in UNC. I like the idea that Downies have used for their coin packs - which involve a printed card and the coin in a soft type capsule. At the moment I see I have two options, similar to what Downies have done or create something a bit like what the PNC's/mint sets use. This would involve a coin holder inside the card. At the moment I'm still researching, but does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me? I'm also not sure where you can buy the soft type capsules as I can only find the hard acrylic style ones. Any help would be greatly appreciated I'll note down those who help me and they can get a freebie once they are up and running!

What do you mean by soft? If you mean a layer of soft plastic surrounding it then Mylar flips are the way to go, if you want a hardish one, try the self adhesive cardboard 2x2s. I suggest having a look at both for they both have their ups and downs.
But if you are thinking of what the downies are doing, with the cardboard holder with the special little space made just for the coin, I'm sorry but you can only get those with the coin already inside them at the mint as far as I know.

"Soft" capsules will more than likely be some sort of PVC and over time will damage the coins.
Just because Downies use them doesn't mean they are inert. I'd be inclined to use the hard acrylic ones you mention, as it's better to be sure than sorry.
life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

Hi all, So after months of work, I've finally finalised and finished the above mentioned cards to house the Red Poppy $2 coins. I'm very happy with how they look. The front and back artwork was done by my Gran, and everything else was designed by me. Thanks to the people who provided their advice! In regards to the material the coins are actually housed in, I have used acid-free saflips. These will help protect the coins and ensure they are kept to the same UNC standard. In regards to the finished product, I will be moving to the United States in a few months to be married and stay there permanently. I do however have a large number of these coin cards still available. As I have not made many posts on this forum before, I'm not sure if I will be able to advertise them on here? If not, do people have any suggestions on how I might be able to sell my stock? I'm not sure the best way to get in contact with coin clubs around Australia, perhaps members might be able to advise? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Amazing artwork! I'm no good at art, my poppy would look like a red coffee stain. Did you find that speach on the Internet or did you make it up by your own, because it is really good. Also, how much do they cost? As for the coin clubs, I don't know. The reason I came here is because the only club in my area wouldn't let someone as young as me enter their oldies group. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Dan

Hi Dan! That's a really famous quote, I just thought it would be appropriate since it fits in well with the idea of the coin/cards. I'm looking for around $20ea, what do you think would be fair? The Downies version was $35 and they are far more basic than mine. This forum is great and has a really supportive feel to it. You'll love it

Yup, $20 sounds about right. I sadly won't be able to buy one, (my budget is about $10 per coin, $20 for investments. I take it as a very light hobby) but I'm sure other people would pay that for the special cover. The unpackaged price is about $10 so you can do the math yourself if you want, but I myself think it's a good price.

$20 for a $2 coin you can find in circulation in aUNC is stretching it a bit too far for me.
I'd pay $3 for the raw coin max, not interested in paying a premium for packaging.

I bet you could search through thousands of $2 coins and not find one. Most people on this forum don't even consider this to be a circulating release, so I wish you the best of luck!

Thank you Hercules. I agree with you, if you find one in circulation you're pretty lucky.
Marketeer, if you can find unc raw ones for $3ea then buy the lot. They are trading for about $10ea at the moment, and for the lowest mintage $2 this is way undervalued in my opinion.
