Hello! My name is Brian and I have been collecting wheat lincolns for about a year now but havent had time to do much research on them. About eight months ago my 96 yo grandmother fell and broke her hip and recently we had to move her out of her apartment so she could be taken care of in a care home, last week when we were moving her things out of her old place and into storage she gave me a little cup of wheat pennies and inside of the cup was 19 beautiful 1909 vdb wheats in excellent condition, She worked at bank of america in the early 40s through the 60s. I want to learn a lot more about these since I havent been collecting for that long and dont know much, Any help would be great

, Brian! Those VDBs don't happen to have an "S" mint mark on them, do they?

Thank You for the welcome. No they dont I know the "S" is a rare one but I want to know more about the V.D.B. all that I have researched have the period between the D and B really close to the D most of these that I have the period is centered, a couple of them have 2 periods between the d and b and one of them the vdb can hardly be seen only a very faint outline.

I Love cents! You're in good company. VDB are the initials of the designer Victor David Brenner. He is a sculptor and Earlier (before he designed the cent) Teddy Rosevelt had posed for him, later commisioning him to do a design based off of an earlier sculpture Brenner had done of Lincoln based off a photograph by Mathew Brady. There was a public backlash when the coin was first released due to the prominent placement of Brenner's initials. In response, the mint halted production & removed the initials until 1918 when they were returned to the coin, this time below Lincolns shoulder. If you ever wanna chat about cents, feel free to message me
