I got "my" coins back from PCGS today. Among other problems, the worst is this - my 1973-S silver proof Eisenhower dollar came back looking like this, it looks like it has glue, or snot smeared on it on both the obverse and reverse. It was perfectly clean when I sent it out, it did NOT have this stuff on it. So they either swapped out my coin, or messed mine up. Not sure what to say when I call to complain, but I am dissatisfied. On top of which, they wrote "clad" on the label, when in fact it is silver. This was my first experience sending coins to get graded by PCGS, and I can say I won't be returning, and I sure would like some of my money back.

Gosh, that's hard to believe, but will take your word for it. What did they say when you called them? What other problems did you have?

The clad designation could be explained by your coin getting mixed up with an ugly clad.

Whoa, thats Treason!

Like ed said it's hard to believe but not out of the realm of possibility I guess. Looks like standard brown ike heat haze but to reveal itself during a submission is strange. Did you just crack it out before sending it in? Maybe it reacted with the atmosphere?

Does your submission sheet state "silver"? I mean, as a reference in your complaint.

edweather - it's true - I would not waste my time or money sending in a coin that looks like this to get graded. When I called them, they said to send an email with pictures of the coin in the slab so they could see what I was talking about. I am going to send the email this morning and await their reply. Well, the other problems I had were a matter of opinion, but, 2 coins graded a few points less than I felt they deserved, and 2 coins I felt deserved "CAM" on the label.

Cascade - No, I didn't just crack it out of government packaging before sending it in. I actually bought a whole roll of 1973-S silver proof Eisenhowers, (came in a plastic tube) picked out the best one, and sent it out to be graded. So I don't know how long ago it was popped out of govt packaging, but it was in my possession for 2 or 3 months and it hadn't changed like that.

BadThad - Please see my reply to edweather about calling them.
-They graded it PR65DCAM. The one I sent in I thought would grade 68DCAM, hoping for 69DCAM though.

Coinfrog - No, I didn't specify silver or "clad" on the submission sheet. Since that part said "optional," I didn't fill it out and assumed they would mark down what it was correctly. I mean, all they had to do was look at the edge to determine if it was silver or not.

Wow. To say I am going to pay close attention to this thread is a grave understatement.

Really sad if you ask me. Hopefully they'll take care of you. I think if I send anything in I'm going to photograph the heck out of it and include a set of those photos with the coin. Keeping a copy for myself of course. Hope it all works out for you.

UPDATE - they emailed me back, I sent the coin back (they will reimburse me shipping cost, and aren't charging me any fees to look at the coin) They will receive the coin today, and what they do from there....I don't know. I don't know how they can possibly fix it.
