Diameter looks to be the size of a cent. I think all of the issues are related to environmental damage.

Are you saying that this is the same diameter as a dime?
Why do you think it is struck on a dime?
Why do you think it is a doubled die?

I see copper on the rim, so something was used to coat the cent. It probably weighs more than the normal copper cent. What is its weight?

It looks like it could be a plated cent that has been abused. In the 1950's it was popular to plate cents and use them as jewelery. My guess is that it will be slightly over weight and possibly have some Copper showing through in places because of the wear.

EDIT: I guess Coop said basically the same thing. I had a long night, I need to read other comments better before I post.

Looks like an acid soaked 1958 D cent that was struck from a die that had some die chips in it.

chipjones,
The coin you have is a Dryer Coin
http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/pmd.html

Quote:
This is what happens to a Lincoln Cent when it falls into a commercial clothes dryer tumbler. Sometime they get stuck and tumble a long time. This gives them the look of a spooned coin, one that has been tapped with a spoon. The details appear wider and smoothed over. Many times the edge will roll over the faces of the coin and give it the look of having a ring attached to it. The damage varies on how long the coin was in the dryer. They have no added collector value.

If it was struck on a dime there wouldn't be a full rim on the coin and the outer writing would be "falling off" the edge of the coin. Not to mention the weight is way different, if you have access to a scale for weighing it. Here is a LMC stuck on a dime from my collection for comparison.
