Just got these in the mail for my coin storage drawers.

http://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00TXSQ162/

Currently most of my binder collection is in my old dresser and figured these would be good to keep the humidity down.

Anyone do something similar?

Haven't done anything similar but I know people use rice to dry out electronics not sure if a bag of rice in a drawer would do anything. You'd always have something handy for a snack if nothing else.

Rice would be a bad idea because it has the tendency to attract vermin. Same with corn meal.. it's also good at absorbing moisture and oils (used to use it on my poker cards in a game) but bad to just have lying out.

Dessicant packs are great and you can buy 'em cheap at Mountain Equipment co-op or the dollar store or online for a very reasonable price... after a few months just put the packs on a baking sheet and into the oven .. dry 'em out for an hour or two and they're as good as new.

Hmmm. I am skeptical. If you have contained environment (like a sealed storage bin) this could work. If you in a typical leaky environment (like a drawer you open and close) I can't see that pulling out enough water to do the trick if you are in a humid environment. The dehumidifier in my basement pulls out about 2 gallons a day all summer long.

I have a dehumidifier that I'm running this is just a little extra. I'm guessing it would drop the humidity another 10% and just need to recharge then once to twice a month. We will see as I got some digital readers on the way as well. Each unit says it good for 500 cubic feet and ideal for drawers, closets, etc.

I bought the Eve-Dry about a year ago, which is very similar to this. I use it in my coin cabinet during the humid months of summer + I have a regular dehumidifier. It seems to work well. I just took it out and placed it in my RV while it is stored for the winter. Just need to recharge it once a month.

right on... That's how I found these as I was researching Eva-Dry and these were on sale at and cheaper so I picked these up instead of Eva-Dry (Looks to be pretty much the same to me). Just finished charging them last night, looking forward in getting my readers to see if there is any difference in the drawer vs what the dehumidifier says atm (which seems to hover around 40 +/- 2)
