I believe it was bent and straightened back out.

It has been pinched between two hard objects, such as the jaws of tin snips.
There are no mint errors even close to that. The only thing I can think of would be a straight clip, but that would happen pre-strike, not post strike. That would be called a Incomplete Punch or Incomplete Clip.

ah gotcha thanks all. esp thanks to cwb with that site I found out I have 2 coins that are missing dates and a possible 1995 unplated zinc cent.

kk I will make a new post when I get home. I have one thats 199 date another thats missing 3 digits and good bit of the coin design and steel penny with a missing 4.

PSD. Notice how the rim is out of round alignment. It couldn't be a mint error. There was a partial clip cent posted a while back:
1951-Cent-With-A-Straight-Cut-In-It-But-Its-Together
But note the edge of the coin and rim are in alignment.

got everything ready except cant locate the 199 dime, I think I rolled it up...time to re open everything bah. btw on the other dime the date looks like 2615

thanks coop, I had 8 coins that I had questions on about clipping, realized most were sanded down only a few were real clip errors.

You have to figure. Someone damaged a coin, what does he do? Throw it away? No he spends it. We find them. He probably has a sign like this in his garage:

We just have to figure out if it happed at the mint or not.

I was on error ref and I ran into an error clip/cut that looked exactly like what I have. it was still intact too. I closed the link so I guess ill have to look for it will update once I find it.
