I would appreciate if one of the experts could weigh in on the authenticity of this 1803 Mexico City 1/2 Real. It's not a high value coin (cull) but I'd like to know if I should keep it or bin it.

1/2 Real. Coin has substantial rim damage, a.Fine details. 1803, Mexico City (Assayer FT). Weight is 1.6g, not attracted to a magnet. Portions of the legends on both sides have clear recutting on certain letters, and part of the left of the reverse crown looks recut.

Coin has a nice darker patina, the pictures make it look a bit brighter than it really is.

Thanks for any assistance. AB

1,6 grams is just a tad low considering it's supposed to weigh 1,7 grams, but maybe a bit of wear, minting inaccuraties and scale rounding can account for that.

Surfaces are not grainy, portrait's looking alright. Legends seem in place. Some characters do look a bit bolder than they're supposed to be. Maybe because of wear spreading them out?

Not too valuable, as mentioned cull. I'd honestly be surprised if this was a well made fake.

How does the edge look like? If there are no obvious flaws (apart from damage), then I'd say it's genuine.

It's a ground recovery coin (detector) and is also bent/flattened a bit, from what I can tell. More of a curiosity than anything. I put it in a 2x2 :)

Wow, congrats on the find! That makes me entirely sure this is not a counterfeit piece, atleast not a modern chinese ripoff. I can see it's a little bit bent from the first photo , but otherwise that's an astonishing find from the ground

Also, I definitely think keeping it is a great idea. A small trophy that you dug up

Keeper under most circumstances, the story makes it better regardless of damage.
