What price point is this one at? From what I've heard the 20k range is where you want to be as the 10k range models don't work too well or don't penetrate deeply enough or something like that. Boy I want one though. I'm sooo jealous!

It was 16 and some change. I looked at 3 different companies and multiple models and this one seemed to be the perfect fit for me. If you call the company directly the price was way higher the salesman was able to knock some off and I got the table top base you can mount it in thrown in for "free". I'm sure I payed for it though.

davec13, I hope you've been following some of the world coin forum discussion of the composition of silver from Mexico. Swamperbob's comments about the presence of at least 100 ppm of gold in all silver coins from Mexico, prior to 1870, is an important diagnostic. Will your XRF device be sensitive enough to measure to one tenth of a percent?

The battery is charging and I have a lot of reading to do, but I'll be scanning soon.

I guess I should make up my own sticker to start adding to slabs.

I honestly wouldn't have a problem scanning stuff for people though. If I could make a couple of bucks to pull the trigger it would definitely help defer the cost of the unit. I posted earlier I payed 16 and change, Well after getting the final bill it was just shy of 19K.

You also need to fill out a ton of paperwork and contact the state radiation control department to get a license and have a "safe" area for storage. It really wasn't what I was expecting when I decided I wanted one.

Excuse my ignorance but is it kinda like taking X-rays and that's why you need a safe area ?

Here is a link to how the process works.

There is a small amount of radiation released during use and a little radioactive material inside. This is why you need to be safe and have all the safety precautions in place.

Numisma it was a 1914D quarter eagle.

I just scanned about 20 counterfeit coins and as I figured the majority are tin and lead, but there were some stand out elements. Some have trace amounts of silver, platinum, and iridium.

It's definitely a fun "toy" to "play" with if you have the means to get one.
