1943-P Jefferson War Nickel WDDO-008 & WDDR-007

I picked this from my LCS in a stack of uncirculated War Nickels. Could see the pop in the star.. and bought and when I got home I was right...

Any comments, suggestions or feedback welcome...

Is this DD on the same coin or two different nickels? Awesome if it's the same one.

From the images I don't see anything. The lighting and glare is preventing me from seeing anything. Sorry

The glare removed from my sight.
Diffuser and a new light direction will help a lot.

With the light falling across the spread it makes it easier to see. When the light is pointing into the notch, then it glare back and block the vision.

I redid changed light source direction and covered light with paper and added black under coin as the original area was.

I think this came out much better..the attribution site to compare

"The day a person stops progressing, is the day he stopped experimenting." (a thought that just came to me.) Experimenting on the light, angles, diffusers, ramps, magnifiers, cameras, soft ware are all critical to progress. The day we stop experimenting, that is the day progressing stops.

It is true that we get what we think is just right. Then you discover something new. Then you look back and see what you did before and then realize how insufficient it was. I mentioned a ramp. Do you know what it is? How do you use it? What is the purpose? Can it be used wrong?

Maybe a subject for discussion in the future?

I didn't use a ramp but I will try that to. I just moved angle the microscope instead, but a ramp is a better as it can be more uniform angle.

Still didn't get the light source issue fully fixed

The secret of the ramp is to have the light bounce off the coin, then into your scope. If you have turned the wrong direction the light doesn't hit the scope. You just have a dark image. The angle is very low, but turned the wrong direction doesn't work.

Yes, most of us have room to progress in photography. Nonetheless O-F, a very nice nickel.

It's funny Ocala. What coop says is so true . Make me think back how many times I thought I figured out how to take photos and then got another idea and it allows me to see more or see them better so then I take all of my coins out and I look through them again. Honestly it's getting to the point I don't have time to go back over all these coins haha

@tweak I can't imagine going back over all the varieties, and I only been collecting less then 2 years. I can only guess to how crazy big some collections are.
