I went to the no-no site to purchase some fake coins for my collection. I have a small collection of fakes that I try to learn from so I hopefully don't get burnt if/when I make a large purchase.

Most of the fakes from the no-no site are the same ones you see on ebay so I feel it is important to be familiar with these.

Anyway, as I was navigating the site I must admit I was blown away with what is fake out there. Obviously I knew the Trade dollars, 1933 double eagles, bust dollars, etc were faked but they had EVERYTHING. I found 1964 Washington quarters and almost every commemorative half dollar you could think of. I honestly didn't realize they faked almost every US coin.

I haven't been too nervous about making my coin purchases since I don't typically buy big ticket items, but now I am a little hesitant knowing the range of lesser value coins that are faked...

What is more terrifying is that they do that for almost ALL countries, not just the US...

Why support that site by giving them money? Worse yet, those coins are brought into the USA making fakes even more prevalent. I know they're for your use but eventually they'll be somebody elses - what about 100-200 years from now? You'll have people getting those coins and feeling like they've been ripped-off.

I went to the site as well with the intent of buying the fakes for comparison, but when I saw how many conterfeits they made I realized it would cost too much so I just cut and pasted the photos. I saw that PCGS slabbed coins were $50.00 extra, so I now know that any slab under $50 is a deal whether counterfeit or not.

I've looked through that site a few times and thought about ordering, but can't support them. I ask at coin shows if the dealers have any and buy from them. They get to at least recover some of the money the lost in the original deal.

It is scary what is available though. I have everything from colonial coinage up to a 2004 nickel.

I bought a few examples from them, and it was EXTREMELY helpful to see the differences in hand. The fabric is entirely wrong, but that is sometimes difficult to see in a picture.

Some of them are actually pretty good. This 1803 Half dollar made Bill Fivaz have to take a double take.

Having these in hand, you can see the diagnostics that show that the coin was struck worn.
