The photos provided show the coin is 'bent' into an oval shape ... is that the reality?
Concur this is a well worn 1884-S Morgan ... likely technical grade is in the AG03 range.

I'm at FR-02. Interesting!

I don't think it's bent, just bad pictures from the seller.
I'll post up better ones when it arrives.
Next question, is it 'bad' enough to be good if you know what I mean?
Or does it have to be even more worn (PO 01) to have much of a premium over melt.

FR02 at best - I'd say it has an outside shot at P01, but if that "S" cannot be positively identified as such, there'd be no point in submitting it, and it'll have to grade as an 1884-something in P01 to command a premium.

Looks borderline between PO-1 and FR-2. On the obverse, I there is a little too much detail around the periphery to grade PO-1 but the reverse is worn enough to grade PO-1. My guess is a FR-2 is more likely than PO-1.

2 as well. Needs less of LIBERTY to get a 1.

Well it has arrived - here are some better pictures: It is in my pocket and has already been to the shops today and out for a walk with the dog. Any new thoughts on grade or are we still at FR02 or thereabouts?

Even with new photos, I'm still at FR-2.

I humbly admit to having some knowledge of 'low-ball' collecting ... an admittedly fringe collecting effort but one which I enjoy. Believe my credentials in this regard have been established ... and there are many CCF threads from me describing the difficulty of obtaining true problem-free low ball coins. All that said ... my opinion ... based on the new photos ... This is an AG03/FR02 details coin which would not certify at a current top three TPG. The reverse is worn to FR02 level ... the 'details' opinion is a result of the obverse. The rim bump at 10:00pm and the 'modern' scratches spaced between 6pm to 9pm IMHO would render the coin a resulting 'details' grade at a TPG. I suspect the OP was hoping for a lower grade opinion ... alas that is not the case with this coin. David

Thank you for the insight nickelsearcher, it's very interesting aspect of coin collecting that I had never really considered before spotting this one.
I will certainly keep an eye open for others over here in the UK.
