Hey everyone,

This is one of the few foreign coins that were in my Grandfather's coin collection. All that was listed in it's coin holder was "Chinese". Any help identifying this as well as a value would be greatly appreciated!

Ostensibly from 1934, but I have doubts about its authenticity. Looks like a cast copy to me.

After a little more research, I'm pretty sure it's a fake. darn shame too, based on these auction prices!

I think for a change, this may be genuine. However it has been cleaned and whizzed. Good news is just because it is cleaned, this is worth more than melt value in genuine condition.

If someone tried to low ball you for melt, ignore all such offers.

Hey gxseries, your reply got me doing more research, and I'm starting to think it is authentic based on the comparisons from this site:

It looks to be an Almond-eyed Dragon die variation.

Authenticating any coin is more than merely a visual process. Before you get too excited, get an accurate weight and then determine its specific gravity. Also check whether a magnet is attracted to it.

I also was in error when I calculated the date. 1897, not 1934.

In any case, the following webpage is worth a look:

I have no experience with these. We need Manymore's or Sap's help.
