Although the Roosevelt dime is kinda stale, boring, call it what you will, I admire it's nearly 70 year sameness...considering so many other coins are constantly changing these days. These coins have remained a constant. The only real difference in the series was the transition from silver to clad. What is remarkable is that after 25 years a coin is eligible for a change...but the dime has remained the same. (not sure what the rules were way back when though)Though it is unclear if that is because everyone is happy with it as it is or if its just the inaction of the government to make a change. How long will it go? Just a little perspective... Roosevelt dime lasted 1946-present (69 years) Mercury dime lasted 1916-1945 (29 years) Barber dime lasted 1892-1916 (24 years) Seated Liberty lasted 1837-1891 (54 years)

Different times and climate.
You're not comparing apples to apples.
Not as many lawyers back then.
Just like why the dollar bill is still around.

The Roosevelt dimes are a relatively easy series to collect, both silvers and clad. I will say 69 years of the same design is a bit much, but I do like the normalcy and consistency.

Just to be clear, the Roosevelt dime has been the same coin, front and back, for all of its years of issue. I know someone out there was thinking of the Lincoln Cent, but he has had seven different reverses. The dime is just too small to do anything special. At some point, when we finally kill off the cent and nickel, the dime will become the bottom coin. Perhaps when that happens we will see a change, if only to appease the groups opposed to losing Lincoln and Jefferson from circulating coins.

I really wonder how long this series will continue as it is? The 1938-2004 Jefferson nickels are in close 2nd place for the same design. However the reverses have remained the same, except for the Westward Journey series. (Really would have liked the bison reverse to have continued.) Even more remarkable is the Lincoln Cent has had the same obverse for 106 years but had 3 different main reverses in that span.

I would love to see a change in US coins, maybe something besides presidents. However politically I don't think you'll be able to get any of the presidents off of our money anytime in the near future. It's possible that there might be some sort of redesign while keeping Roosevelt on it, but I don't see any reason why they would. Maybe in 2033 in honor of 100 years since he first became president.

I kinda thought 2016 would have been a good time to say farewell to the current design as next year marks it's 70th anniversary.

I wouldn't mind seeing a change to the designs of the long running coins...but what I hate is when the design changes every year or there are 5 in the same year.
So if they want to change the design of the dime once to something new for the next 50 years, all for it.
If they want the dime to highlight 5 different (insert whatever) each year for the next 10 years, then I am totally against it.

I agree crazyglue. And I think 51 years for the half dollar is enough. That could be changed as well, even keeping a new design for another 50 years.

2016 would be a good year to return to Liberty for all circulating coins.

After reading the points I was going to make a case of returning to a Liberty design. Then I get to the very bottom & jbuck had beaten me by 11 minutes. That jbuck always seems to be a step ahead. Curses! Foiled again.

No problem. It has happened to me once or twice.

Almost all our coins are soon enough going to be gone so why bother to change any of them now. Try picturing those State Quarters next on a Dime. Ever wonder why a Dime is so small? If we change anything in coins it should be the size. Penny to Dollar, each getting bigger and by at least 1mm. I have several Albums of Roosevelt dimes but only due to people giving me those Albums and I have a bad habit of filling those.
