I am sure this subject has been done before... but what does your collection consist of and how is it stored?

Lets post some photo's...

What's-In-Your-Hoard?

This chest houses the majority of my collection... it is a 1920's cedar chest carved in the orient somewhere...

Inside is pretty full (I am somewhat surprised it didn't fall through the floor into the room below)

What's-In-Your-Hoard?

A- contains my folders with Banknotes. on the left contains my British Banknotes and a few sets from my European Travels, next along contains USA banknotes and notes from my Carribean and Australian travels. Next folder contains receipts and inventory papers, two ring bound documents are a first draft on a memoir, lastly a folder called "Banknotes of the world" which is a general collection that I probably paid too much for containing things like the propaganda banknotes dropped on Iraq, assignats, baby bonds etc etc

B- Visible is the album containing British coins, near the top because I am often adding coins from circulation (as I have been for the last 30 years) it is sitting on 3 Velvet boxes which have trays inside holding larger coins such as Silver ounce bullion coins, Cartwheel pennies, Ike's, crowns etc. These sit on an album of Australia coins, an album of USA coins and an album of phonecards (probably the biggest collecting mistake possible!)

A and B both sit on Casino Chips that I collected (mainly in Vegas) Its fair to say I made a sizable donation in exchange for these.

C-This little pile has car diagnostics at the top, sitting on some fountain pens, sitting on a corgi model of an MGF (corresponds to a real car I have in storage) sitting on an Audermars Piguet watch box/papers and some silver proof sets of British coinage and a jar that I throw commemorative coins in out of my change.

D-Visable is a folder of 2x2's containing my most prized ancient coins. Above is a leather bound journal in the style of an illustrated manuscript. It lists and describes my collections and creations. These sit on 2 folders relating to the Euro (first and last coins from change over, uncirculated sets for each country) 2 more Lighthouse Numis albums contain my Grandfathers coins that he collected in his wartime travels fighting in Europe and North Africa as well as general world coins.

E-Cartier box containing some small ceramics, sitting on a leather watch box which rotates and keeps automatic watches in motion (containing a Royal Oak watch) sitting on some odd sets (Soveriegns, proof 1970's, proof American and 3 completed Whitman folders for UK sets)

F- Cartier Sunglasses and associated packaging, sitting on folder of Olympic 50p's (not seeing so many of these in my change now) Sitting on a model of my current car (Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo) sitting on Mont Blanc pens, sitting on models of weapons used in LOTR, sitting on some odd sets (Canadian mint silver, Millenium UK Silver, Maundy money)

G/H-Silver 1920's box containing jewellery (wrapped in cloth bag) Murano Glass ashtray, Hohner vintage Harmonica, Gollum figure.

What's-In-Your-Hoard?

What's-In-Your-Hoard?

I- Unusual box containing coin doubles/for trade. Tin with silver patents of rings I created, Dunhill cufflinks, novelty cufflinks (chess pieces), Sets of playing cards (Iraq portraits, art deco cards, limited edition cards)
Caligraphy pens, inks, pencils, compasses, Olympic 50p uncirc set, some cased coins.

That's pretty much it, I call it my man chest (stuff that nobody cares about but me goes in there) If anyone wants to talk me through their collecting cabinet/safe/chest/shelf/desk etc I would be interested in seeing what they have in there.

Hey David, would you mind snapping a close up of your Hohner?
I could date it for you by the bottom plate. The number of points on the star between the two hands will let you know, eh?

Maybe its not that old, it doesn't have a star...

I know nothing about these but saw it on ebay and bought it for a couple of pounds...I play guitar and figured it might be nice to get a sound out of it.

It does have several dates on the plate...Grand Prix Geneve 1927...Grand Prix Philidelphia 1926, Grand Prix Paris 1937 and Grand Prix Chicago 1895.

@Indiangoldeagle...
I can understand your thinking...but anyone who is smart enough to work out exactly where I live, brave enough to come in my house, strong enough to lift this before I kill them is welcome to it. The fact is that stealing the Audi parked on the front drive would be more profitable, easier and more convenient. Also just because you haven't posted an explanation of how you collect doesn't make you less of a target for robbery... your name is Indiangoldeagle... I can safely assume that you have something of value in your house.

Also from what I posted these folders could all contain common junk or high end items...no one is any wiser than they were before I posted it.

I thought people might want to talk about their collections... its not as simple as "coins" or "banknotes" people have themes which they collect and choose different items which they store differently.

Those dates refer to dates Hohner won awards for Harmonica designs. As a general rule the fewer points on a star the older it is. Hohner started out with a generic 5 point star and then gave it more meaning moving to a six point star. The 6 points where for the 6 founding members of Honer. In 1937 they stopped with the 6 point star as it was scene to be a Star of David. They never did resume putting stars on their harmonicas so yours is at the oldest a 1937.

As for how I stoe my coins I have a generic tupperware stand/draws on wheels and milk crates.

Are your 50p in 2x2s or all packaged together in one set by any chance? My aunt one a trip for two to the 2012 Olympics and 600 pounds spending money by filling out a Visa Canada servey. I picked up a set of 50p to go with my 2010 Olympic quarters. The 50p are all in individual packaging with the little Olympic logo.

They are all individually packaged.

What's-In-Your-Hoard?

Have you got many harmonica's? They might make a nice thing to collect since they don't take up too much space.

Yep! Oh the memories!

Edit:

I have a few. For playing I use the Hohner Special 2o. They use senthetic reads so you can dunk them in water with denture cleaning tablets to get out any gunk/salivia with out fear of the ratten reeds swelling up.

I also collect Occupid Japan stuff so I have Occupide Japan harmonicas and pre WW2 six stared hohners.

I also picked up all plastic harmonicas made in America durring ww2 war rations and harmonicas that where briefly made in the Republic of Ireland.

The Hohner Little Lady was the first musical instruments played in space and can play a 1 octive c scale. I have one of them as a novelty.

I studied folklore and ethnomusicolgy at university and love using a b/c harmonica glued together like a melodeon and a d and g harmonica like tin whistle when playing celtic music.

Awesome... I have a couple of guitars... I can actually play those (I am a bit useless with the harmonica...) A 50th anniversary Stratocaster, a Yamaha acoustic and a Tobias Bass guitar.

The Strat I got an amazing deal on (leant someone some money against it and they didn't repay) I don't play so often these days but I don't think I would ever part with it.

I too like the looks of the Chest/trunk.

Thanks for posting.

Someday I would like to build a treasure chest to hold
some of my collection.
