For the first of these, the seller does identify it as a magnetic replica and certainly isn't looking to make a killing at the price he's selling it for, but he ought to be dissuadied from dealing in such as it's not marked "COPY". It's also of course a "fantasy" issue, although he hilariously states in his description that "the year is 1887 which would be a very hard find for the real coin." Seller has country of origin as "Unknown" but it's almost certainly from China.

Here's his listing for an 1885 which is even more egregious since authentic examples of that do exist.

I guess it is not illegal to sell this stuff, but ebay should have a WARNING printed on the item. Buyer beware and all that but this begins to kill my enthusiasm for buying online. My wife collects art pottery and there is so much fake Chinese junk on the market she won't even buy certain items online anymore. She says the only difference that stands out usually is the weight between the real thing and the fakes. I wonder is this is true of the fake coins?

For the first coin, at least, I don't think it has to be marked 'COPY' as it isn't replicating an actual coin.

With the changes made to the Hobby Protection Act last year, if they aren't marked COPY in the way the law proscribes then yes they are illegal to sell.

The way I read the act they should still be marked.

the law requites imitation numismatic items to be marks and they define imitation numismatic items as
" The term "imitation numismatic item" means an item which purports to be, but in fact is not, an original numismatic item or which IS a reproduction, copy, or counterfeit of an original numismatic item."
Eve though no genuine 1887 CC Morgan dollar exists I would say that thing "purports to be, but in fact is not, an original numismatic item" As such it needs to be marked.

And he makes the 1885 an auction to entice the bidiots to get into a bidding war.

Supposedly the US is among the top countries as far as literacy rate is concerned...
