Hey, guys, I was just playing around with my new USB microscope, which arrived today, and looking at some random coins from a junk silver tin. Anyway, I was scanning over this 1942-S War Nickel and noticed that it appears to be an RPM. Could someone please identify this? Thank you. There may also be a very tiny lamination in the region.

It does appear to be a RPM. However, as to its filing number, I have no idea.

Nice! I didn't see it listed in the RPM book it only had up to number -012 and no south east ones at all the rpm-005 and rpm-012 but they are south west so no good http://www.varietyvista.com/images/JN%20BOOK.pdftip when using ebook (on a pc)if you hold press ctrl&F keys together it will popup a search document window then you can type 1942-s to jump to the listings quickly

I think it is a 1942-S RPM-013 S/S East reported by eric axtell it was in the printed nickel rpm book update 2001-2002 by james wiles. I think the difference is just lamination having parts fray or whatever. http://www.varietyvista.com/1942SRP...20nickel.htmIt has the highest price listed for s/s for that year

Thank you, OcalaFlorida. I take it the coin carries no premium in this condition.

If I end up doing a lot of nickel searching, I may want to get that book. It's only $3 on Amazon.

Numisma - it does carry a premium in that condition - I'll give you four times face.

@mdpmedia I seen the author of the newest book speak last week but its not update nice overall book. unfortunately on rpms I would say none are upto date... I listed all the books I have found but I am newbie only 1 year 9 months I like too check Brian Ribar's site I guess that's the most current if you mix it with variety vista but they are not books. https://goccf.com/t/244100

maybe $6-10 you could get for the coin it goes for $50 in uncirculated its a rarer one of that year.
If I was at a show I would grab it for $6-10 as a place holder till nicer specimen is found to replace it.
