As I'm starting to notice less and less I find CRHing, and in change, I'm starting to wonder if I should just hang on to any 2009 cents I see regardless of what condition they are in (unless badly corroded).. Any potential spike in value, possibly (in the next 20 years or so)? Seems like since zinc cents only last so long, that maybe in 50 years or so there will be a larger market for them?

I don't think they will have any more value than other years anytime in my lifetime but I do save them from CRH'ing because I typically find less than I do Wheats these days...

I don't come across many in my change so I save them if they are attractive. I doubt they will see a large spike in value any time soon since they were/are widely hoarded.

I don't see many when I CRH but only keep them when they are in high grade. Yes the mintage is kinda low but EVERYONE saved them back in 2009. John1

Mintage numbers on the 2009 coins were much lower due to the economic problems of the time, so they are relatively scarcer.

Also, a factor in the relative rarity is that the total mintage is split between 4 varieties. so approximately 1/4 of the total for each variety. In 2008, almost 2 billion each for P and D, and in 2010, over 2 billion each for P and D.
Add up all 4 types for 2009 and you are around 1.1 billion for P mint and 1.2 billion for D mint. So with each type between 200 million and 360 million, much less common, but not rare by any means.

Well I would if I found any. (I've actually found four of them so far. An LP1, 2 LP2, and an LP3).
One of the resons you aren't seeing that many is because a lot of people are saving them, which will keep them from ever being worth much. A significant portion of the entire mintage is squirrel away making the survival percentage for this date very high.

I only keep 2009 cents if they are uncirculated with no spots or major problems.

No need to save them unless you're putting together a high-grade roll set. The only one's I'd consider is the LP4, they are the lowest mintage of the 4.

I dont search them out as I was able to get boxes of them when they came out. I was lucky to be at the release for LP3 also. There are so many hoarded it may be cheaper, when taking into consideration you time, to just buy some rolls.

Like most folks here, I only keep the nice ones, which hasn't amounted to much over the past 6 years.
