I may be using the wrong terminology here but my question is..the dates on E38b and E39b on the Haxby site both seem to be exactly the same? Is it possible that they used exactly the same punch numbers as PC59 373-37+E38b to do 383-38+E39b? I know that they come from different dies but? If you look at both Die below from the Haxby site 38b and 39b I thing you will see what I mean. http://www.vickycents.com/rev-e38b.htmlhttp://www.vickycents.com/rev-e39b.htmlOK here is a pic. of my 38+E39b! I am still hunting for 37+E38b which I am missing! MG Edited by viper 11/01/2015 06:06 am

The photos show the story. By mistake the photo for the date of E39b was used for both E38b and E39b. Amazingly, both dies have very similar detail in the repunching of the 9: a major piece of the original lower loop hangs down at the right, a smaller piece of the lower loop and ball hangs down at the left (more so on E39b than E38b) and a tiny sliver of bottom of the upper loop is at the right. When the dates are superimposed, however, the 9s are in quite different positions. And, of course, the dies can be differentiated by the detail of the repair of Stem 9, by the die crack at L14 on E38b and, of course, by the obverses with which each is associated. Leaf 9 and lower date for E38b. Leaf 9 and lower date for E39b. The dates on the two dies superimposed. The die crack at Leaf 14 on E38b.
