Hi Photos of a 2014 two dollar coin. The "ELI" is virtually non existent and the 'Z' is very faint. On the other side the "4" is also very faint. I can't determine if it's due to a minting error or PMD. Has anyone else seen this before?

. If you don't know, Struck Through Grease is pretty much exactly what it sounds like- there was grease in the die during striking, which filled some devices and prevented the metal from filling them.

Thanks very much, I didn't know that.
Would this be classed as an error? Also, I have read articles which refer to oil strike coins - Is this the same thing?

Yes this is an error, although a minor one. It carries little or no premium, as these are fairly common circulation finds. I haven't heard the term oil strike, but it sounds like the same thing.

Struck Through Grease and struck finger print ...... I WILL PROVE THIS ONE DAY WHEN I CAN GET A PRESS ......the finger print is of the mint worker a slight touch and a finger print is left in the die or the planchet and when struck it tattoos it self onto the coin ......I hve done this with a small press and left mu finger print on the steel it works under the chest of the aboriginal man you can see some finger prints this would have been from the press operator pushing the die in or adjusting it

Interesting theory. Are you sure the fingerprint isn't just on the coin?
