Now that I have your attention :). I have no idea if this is a blank planchet or if someone totally took a file to this coin. Again I will state come out of bank I inherited from my Mom who passed in 2003, if it is filed it wasn't recently. Help! Thanks as always.

The coin was filed down to be the size of a dime so that some kid could use it in a vending machine back in the day,

Looks like some major acidic corrosion. Don't think it was a blank or planchet, though. The color is reminiscent of sulpheric acid - if that's the true color. Rims may have been filed off.

As the story goes, back in the 1950's - 1960's when it cost a dime to use the pay telephones and the really cool stuff was always in the dime gum ball machines, kids would file a penny down to match the size of a dime. Many an unsuspecting machine was taken advantage of this way. If you look at the edges of the coin and examine the dime overlay, it becomes clear that is what has happened in this case. You can even see how the face of the coin was filed down to match the thickness of the dime. Some cents do get minted on the wrong planchets but many are like this one!

Those were my thoughts as well. Well I didn't know about people doing it to use in dime machines, but it did look very "filed" down to me. Thanks for your input. PS I am having so much fun looking through these old coins.
