This coin looks like it was dipped in Acetone or something else to remove some black toning or green crud and the white areas near the rims is environmental damage resulting from the dipping. Do you agree or have a different reason the appearance of the coin?

Acetone will not remove toning or corrosion and it should definitely not cause anything resembling environmental damage on a coin. It is hard to see what exactly is going on with the coin, the scan is pixelated and distorted.

Acetone was not used on this Buffalo. looks like some kind of acid solution was used.
too bad. the coin looks like it didn't have too much wear.

This coin was up for auction today on ebay and it sold for a little over $10. I was a little surprised of the hammer price considering the look of the coin.

It looks terrible from the photo. If the seller can't do better pics than that he/she should not be selling online at all. There are a lot of coins on sale so why buy something like that unless there is some inside info on the true likeness of the coin.
