Hello, I am quite new to the collecting and am starting with pennies. I've been getting boxes from the bank daily and will be starting to get 2 a day starting tomorrow. I am finding ALOT of wheat pennies and error coins in these boxes which leads me to believe that someone dumped a now deceased family members collection in the bank without realizing what it was. But anyways. I found a 1955 that has the first 5 doubled, but slanted and a slight run below it. I have read that the "poor mans" DD is the last 5 generally being doubled.. I am attaching a picture.. Thank you!

Looks like damage on the first 5. Check the MM for 1955D-1MM-001 on coppercoins.com though.

Some sort of damage but keep searching. Sounds like a great box you came across.

Thank you, I did suspect PMD but wanted to verify first. I've been finding around 25-40 wheats per box, old Canadian pennies with the oldest being 1917 and 2 Bahamas pennies. I've gone through about 6 or 7 so far and have made arrangements with my bank to do 2 a day. They are super nice and ordered more and are always curious about my findings. In 1 box I found 3 mint 1953d wheats and I have 6 in total. Nice reds! I am thinking someone accidentally got rid of a collection.. I'm hoping to find some good stuff! :)

I think that's a die chip in the upper part of the 5.
Rest in Peace

either PMD or a filled die, which is common for Wheaties in the 50's.

The poor man's (so called) doubled die is from extreme die wear that affects the outside edges of the date.

But note that on all devices they are affected. Weak wheat lines, die cracks and general all around die wear on all devices facing the rims. This is a BU coin. The extreme over use of the 1950's wheat dies to make every cent possible from these dies are what were are often shaking out heads at when looking at them through an ocular were use today.
Because of the bid DDO that year, collectors tend to look too closely for these. But actually paying a premium for these would actually make you the poor man when you go to sell them. They are common and easy to find. (just interesting)
