I'm thinking this is machine damage on the devices. The overall size of the devices are normal in size. But areas are pushed from die movement during the strike.

Not this time. There's added area with the strongest spread on the Y.

This is different, Durkastani, it was double struck by a normal die. Strike Doubling occurs when the die inadvertently moves during the strike.

Doubled die is doubled on the die it self and a double strike is a mechanical damage Strike Doubling tends to be flat and have features that look like they were dragged across. A true doubled die would show the same rounded shape as the original die but it could be distorted or rotated.

Yeah, I'm familiar with Strike Doubling. I've seen tons of it. There are no flattened or dragged devices in these pictures however.

You'll notice a trend with my posts. If I'm unsure of what I have, there will usually be question marks involved in the post. If there aren't any of those, I'm telling you what I have and am sharing it. You don't have to agree with what I've posted of course :-).

That's fair enough Durkastani. I respect what you are saying. To be honest with you I do see what looks to me, like some interesting notching. At the same time however, I will continue to believe what Coop says, because I have found his analyses of coins to be correct 99.9% of the time. No one on this site or any other is infallible, so I strongly advise anyone interested in improving their numismatic skills to learn from him.

I lean on COOP'S expertise heavily. For one thing, he's always amenable in his responses which is refreshing. I equally appreciate your input as well CM. Thank you both for all of your insights.

Idk why Kennedy halves have a lot of what looks to be notching on the T and Y I usually ignore it. But yours extended to the E are you sure there is nothing on the other letters? I would look buy the TRUST on the obverse by the why if anything else will show it will be there.

Out of the Kennedy varieties in the CPG, there is only three what show doubling on the letters of LIBERTY. The rest are mostly on the motto only.

Usually, when I find the "T" notched like that, the "I" of "IN" is also doubled. Is yours that way?

Actually, you're right Agrippa, and now that I look closer there is a notch on the 1 of the date as well
