Hi all,
My name is Jennifer. I have frequented these forums over the last several months and finally decided to become a member since I have several coins in my collection that I have no idea how to start researching.
I started coin collecting many years ago because my great aunt was in the foreign service for many years and handed down a modest, but very interesting, collection of foreign coins. Since then I have snagged any foreign coins or paper that I can get my hands on. My interest in foreign coins has since developed into an interest in collecting any coins that are unusual or of potential value. Honestly, I wouldn't consider myself a die-hard coin collector but my interest is rapidly growing with my collection.
I look forward to chatting with everyone!

to CCF Jennifer! It's a great place for anyone with your interests. Do you have specific World coins that are your interest, or just any-everything? My interest in World coins (we don't use "foreign" that much because we have members from all over the world and to them US coins are "foreign"), is specifically Crown-sized issues. These are the great, big, 34 - 40mm coins (especially the shiny, silver ones). Look through the member lists for those who sell and trade to see if there might be something of interest for you. A lot of our members sell on ebay also. Great to have you here on CCF. Jack

World coins are so fun.. and such an untapped market. Many undervalued in my opinion. Just today I was looking through some of my world coins and noticed one from the 1800's that still has nice full lustre.. and was thinking I could probably only get one "Canadian" coin of the same date and condition as I got a whole binder full of different world issues.
So.. you're not alone as a lover of world coins... there's many of us out there.. welcome and hope you enjoy the forum.!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! It is nice to finally "meet" some folks that share my love of the unique in the world of money (my co-workers and fiance generally think I'm crazy, I think...lol) @Jack316-My collection of world coins is just a random assortment of coins that I have found over the years. I have never actively sought out any of my collection (although I may start )...they are just coins that I have come across while watching my pocket change (it's so exciting what you find when you just pay attention). Some of my coins have been given to my by friends or family that know of my interest and a few I have bought off of customers that had no way to convert them (I work in a very touristy area and people, I find, don't get their money converted before they travel...which is a HUGE benefit to me ). Many of the coins that I have I haven't even taken the time to figure out exactly what they are (I have a hand full of some sort of oriental coins that I can't even read lol) and I have no interest in their value because they are of great sentimental value to me. I just enjoy seeing the diversity in the world's coinage. @AgCoinAu-I completely agree that world coins are very undervalued...many people seem to regard them as trash if they have not buying power in their country (even though it's still money....I don't get it). I take as much advantage of that mentality as I can....one man's trash is another man's treasure. I take it from your comment about Canadian coins that you are in Canada? I think its kind of funny...Canadian coins circulate almost as much here (Tennessee, USA) as American coinage does...It even passes through the Fed's hands and we get them regularly delivered in rolls direct from the Fed. Even the retailers and banks tend to disregard the fact that they are Canadian and accept them for US cents. Needless to say, I have more Canadian coins than I do any coins from one single other country. I am currently at work (incidentally, this is where I get most of my down-time to play on the computer) but when I get home I will try to snap a couple of photos of my collection. Maybe some of the folks on this site will have some insight on that some of them are called that way I can research them easier (it's awful hard to get Google to understand what you have in your hand if you can't describe it). While I'm here...does anyone have any insight into the best way to clean the tarnish off of coins without damaging them? I have some pennies that I was able to shine up quite nicely with toothpaste and a soft toothbrush but I worry that that might corrode or scratch other metals. I tried silver polish on my silver (which needless to say worked well) but I worry about using it on other metals. Any advice?

Jennifer! I grew up in TN. with a lot of Aunts and Uncles around the DollyWood area. Tennessee is a pretty place for sure. We will look forward to seeing your pictures and I will leave it to the much wiser experts to discuss how to clean up your coins.
