Absolute beautiful toning...greens and reds and purples with luster underneath....will be sending this to PCGS soon. Grading thoughts?

AU details, highly questionable color (AT)

Color is definitely suspicious I agree with Adam I think artificially toned.

PCGS will figure out if it's AT or not.

I don't think you'll get this one back in a straight-graded slab, as it appears to have been artificially toned. Unfortunately, circulated coins don't tone this way without help.

I disagree with the AT....I have submitted a Seated quarter to PCGS that was wrapped in a tissue by my grandfather for 60 years and it came back XF45 graded. I have also submitted coins like this from coin envelopes (manila kind) and they graded straight as well. Looking pas the toning.....what grade?

I've looked at a few hundred of these over the past years and never seen one with full coin iridescent toning in a slab. They tend to tone golden to olives and obsidian blacks, with occasional coppery red tones. When they do go "rainbow", the color toning is almost always peripheral or target-toned. I'm sure fully rainbow-toned examples in slabs do exist but they are probably very scarce and extremely expensive. There are a few slabbed dimes and Half Dimes with almost full or full rainbow toning, and they reside in the price range of coins from the Simpson toner sets. Very pretty, but paying $3k for a Half Dime is a stretch for me.

Toning aside, I think it is in the 40-45 range.

Waste of money to get it slabbed IMHO.
