Coin Collections Are Relatively Compact Compared To Other Collectables

I've seen collectors fill entire rooms (sometimes several rooms) with their collections.

As coin collectors should we be thankful that our collections don't take up as much space as say a collection of vintage toys?

What are you talking about? Antique telephone/telegraph insulators are compact... right?

Two rows are hiding behind the upper curtain in this pic also. A case sit to the left of this with around 200-250.

And that's 2/3 of what's on display inside and out. Then there are approximately ten totes each holding 50 or so each. This is after I got rid of about 1000 ten years ago!

I've seen a couple of Beanie Baby collections that only take up the rear dash of an automobile. That's pretty compact, right?

Yes. Yes we should.

That does not mean I do not wish I had kept more of the toys from my youth. I was a kid when Star Wars came out. You know I was flush with the Kenner!

Honestly? I don't

I get to them about two or three times a year and it gives me time to handle/admire each piece up close. They are full of history just like our coins are. Its actually kind of fun.

Bullet collections don't take up much space. Car collections take up lots of space. Some kids and big kids too, collect little toys like Littlest Pet Shop animals. Those are small. Coin collections can get really big too.

Depends on the coin collection. I have seen one or two on here that have made entire rooms for their coins

One of the reasons I like coin collecting it's that it can be kept hidden quite easily. No-one can see what my collection is.

It's most useful if I've just spend £200 on a coin and the wife is nagging me about baby formula.

Coins are starting to take up a bit too much room for my liking, but still I don't want to give any away.

Banknotes are quite space saving...

I have a few guitars, and there are bigger things that I would collect but really I discipline myself into only keeping small stuff or I will end up like some of the people on "American Pickers" who can't move from one room to another.

I am thankful that a coin collection takes up a fairly small amount of space. I use to know this elderly gentelman that had one of the most impressive antique metal toy collections I had ever seen. His collection basically took up his entire house. They were in every single room. I could easily fit my entire collection in my safe and nobody would ever know I collected coins if I chose to do so.

That is one of the main reasons that I decided to allow myself to get back into coin collecting. All my other hobbies took up too much space, cost probably more money, and didn't increase in value the way collecting coins does

The core of my meager collection fits rather well into these antique bank and coin boxes I've found at a local shop :) These are kept out of the way in a chest in the corner of the bedroom, so as to not disturb the household. It's a thrill every time I get to pull these out, maybe once a week or so.

If you collect slabbed coins I see an obvious disadvantage with regards to efficient use of space. This is one reason I have often viewed slabs with disapprobation.

My video games have taken over my garage. I'm looking at building a larger garage in the spring, so I can maybe park one of my trucks inside.
