Just want to introduce myself. I don't have a camera to take pics yet but hope to have soon. I have a 1975-D with major doubling on the date.(visible to the naked eye). The penny looks like it may have been tampered with (possibly heat) but the date is the only doubling. Will post some pics soon to get expert opinions. Have some other neat mint errors also.

Looking forward to your images. Many times cents will have machine damage on the devices that reduce the overall size and make it look doubled. Here are a few examples: Note how the digits are affected on the left side of the date? That is the type of reduction to the device that I was referring to. Again note, the devices were damaged during the strike on the upper third of the devices. This happens during the strike then the dies damage the coin from movement/bounce during the strike. If that is what you are seeing, it is common and easy to find on coins. No premium for these, but some sell them to the un-suspecting on ebay. (best to know for sure before you buy on coins.

Thank you for the replies. I am a little excited about this one. The numbers are way doubled. The 1 is on the 9. This is not a worn out die. I don't know what caused it. Kind of like a hologram. At one angle the penny looks like a 1979. At another angle a 75. I will get a usb computer camera in a week or so and post. Any recommendations on an camera for taking coin photos. Prefer under $200.00.

Bear with me folks. A big learning curve going on with this new microscope. Got the bitmaps converted jpeg but they are lost on this computer somewhere.

Yes it has. I almost tossed it in the scrap pile without looking at it. Interesting though.
