I started this string off in the grading section but I am going to reference it here because I am wondering if any of the tokens experts can help out on George Ords tokens generally.

https://goccf.com/t/245339

The catalogue lists brass and copper tokens and suggests the copper is much more scarce than the brass. I haven't seen too many for sale of either type but only copper ones show up in my searches.

Anyone know how scarce these tokens really are?

Thanks!

According to the Charlton token catalogue it was struck in Dublin but pieces were brought to Canada and circulated. My outdated Charlton shows values for the brass token that are not that high ($15 in VG to $150 in EF) and lists no values for copper and just calls it "Very Scarce". I am wondering about this listing though. I can find a number of records for the coin in copper but very few in brass. I am wondering if this is one of those obscure items that got into Charlton incorrectly once and never got fixed because no one really had the definitive information to correct it.

It reminds me of the errors in the catalogue on the 1871 PEI cent with medal axis. It was shown as being common for 20 odd years when it is actually extremely scarce.

BTW, does anyone know if the new Charlton finally got the PEI cent fixed after the article in the CNA journal? I still have to go and pick a new Charlton up to get the small cent section!
