I just stopped off at the PO Box tonight and found an invoice from Fred Lake, letting me know I had won 9 items in his last auction! Super excited to get them soon, a couple I have been trying to get for a long time!

Larry Briggs - Seated quarter Encyclopedia (very rare)
Rod Burress - Attribution guide to Matron Head Cents
Empire Topics - Volume #'s 7, 8, 10, 11
Empire Review - Volume #16
Money Tree FPL #1
Complete Set of 21 Money Tree "Out on a Limb" Newsletters

That will definitely fill some holes I had in my library! I'm getting closer to finishing off a complete set of early Q. David Bowers price lists and catalogs with these lots. I already completed my Bowers/Ruddy/Merena Rare Coin Reviews earlier this year (154 issues).

I already have most of the Money Tree Out on a Limb newsletters, but finding the ones I was missing was really tough, so when the opportunity came to grab a whole set, I couldn't refuse the chance, If anyone needs or wants to get some of my duplicates, PM me on them. If you have no idea what OOAL is, they were the Money Tree's house organ written by Ken Lowe (R.I.P.) that told in a very humorous way all about the rare coin book world, Ken and his partner Myron, had wonderful adventures is buying and selling numismatic literature when Money Tree was around, Ken was an ex-English teacher, and his telling of stories is very informal, and akin to Q. David Bowers writing style, IMO, and if you like numismatic literature these are not to be missed.

If you haven't heard of Fred Lake Auctions, he has great books and offers a great mail bid auctions, I usually spend most of my book funds with him and David Fanning at Kolbe & Fanning.

You picked up some seriously nice reference material. Some of those items, as you mentioned, are darned tough to find.

No kidding!
Fred Lake has the last PRL posted as well, so you can see the kind of prices items bring, the early Bowers materials would cost around $25-50 each on ebay - Auction price? $5.00/each!

I paid good money for the Briggs book and the MT OOAL set, yet still kept my purchases at the $200 level including the auction juice, handling and shipping.

Fred Lake has great auctions, his next one should be in January next year. It will consigned items from Bowers Library - his duplicates and extra items, I'm looking forward to that one.

westcoin on your latest purchases. I have been taking a break from book buying since I've spotted a banknote I want to purchase for my collection but need to save up for.
