Any ideas on why this $5 Gold commemorative is a 1/4 ounce piece? Most ebay auctions are not noting this weight figure. I assumed it was a 1/10 ounce piece like the Gold American Eagle series until I checked out usmint.gov and read the information.

I still can't believe the prices these are going for on ebay when the mint is still selling them via the telephone.

Any comments?

Since there's NO LIMIT on the number of gold coins being minted

Nope, only 100,000 across all product options are available for the gold coin

The Mint does not produce 1/10oz commems and all of the $5 commems are pre-1933 half eagle($5) weight standards.

Why do they cost more as a set than as individual pieces? Is it just because of theholde that holds all 3? I think it should be somewhat cheaper since they do save on material on only making holder for all three instead of 3 separate holders. Just doesn't make sense to me. Seems like a way to rip off newbies.

They cost so much because the maximum mintage is 25,000.

They are selling high on ebay even though they are still available at the mint because it's a limit of one per household and the dealers (and hard-core collectors) want more than one set.

So likely this will be a "hot item" for awhile, then after time passes the price will come way down on the " ebay Mania" ? And a few years from now (if gold doesn't get crazy) the proof set will be worth $50.00 more than we paid for it ?
I still didn't buy to sell it and make a profit....... I got it as a neat addition to an ever growing collection of Moderns & Classics........ There are a lot of Classic coins one could buy with the cost of this Bald Eagle Proof set that's for sure......... but........dang it....... I just like this set !

I second that, Eaglefoot !!
"Buy the coins (s) for the love of the coin (s), not necessarily because you'r looking to turn a profit !
