No Coop it is a 1976 p. But it would grade very well I'm thinking about getting it graded along with some others nickels I have that I think are FS

Is that a contact mark breaking up the top 2 steps?

Do contact marks count against a FS designation?

Far as I always knew they did-need at least 4 full and seperated lines with no disturbances

Ive honestly no idea if thats a big enough disturbance to disqualify it tho? I'm curious...

It might get the full steps designation on a good day.
Before spending the money I'd suggest taking it to a show where onsite graders from the big three might give you an opinion.

Going back in time from memory, FS Jefferson nickels are those that have at least 5 full steps without vertical or horizontal disturbance of the steps. If there are 6 full steps, then they can be considered as being FS+. Older FS MS Jeffersons are very difficult to find and some there are less than a few graded above MS 65 such as the 1967, 1968-D and 1969-S. A contact mark that breaks the steps is counted against being a true full step Jefferson.

These were listed on Heritagecoins.com as graded full steps:

I do not think that would get fs. To quote Bernard Nagengast "any bagmarks in the step area, usually showing as nicks and abrasions, must not be deep enough to cut all the way into the depression between the steps"

tweak800, the steps on your nickel look good but can't tell if they are full steps. proper magnification and sharpness are needed. but then again I have had some previous trouble designating FS on other Jeff's.

Between the I and C in Monticello, the base or 6th step creeps over the 5th step. Jefferson nickels are my main coin I collect. I had one graded like that and it did not get FS designation.
