I'm thinking F15.

1838 is a tough year to attribute so I can only guess (that's my disclaimer)

I'm fairly sure that it is Reverse J because of the broken N in CENT that you mentioned. Reverse J was used in N-11, N-15, and N-16.

And now the guessing part.

I don't think it's N-16 because I don't see a broken 1 in the date.

N-11 and N-15 are tough because I can't see the obverse very clearly so you may have a better chance choosing the correct one with the coin in hand.

I think it's N-11 - short peaked 1, E above R in LIBERTY.

The case for N-15 would be the first 8 in the date leaning left and 83 closer together. I'm not sure.
