Will get one towards the end of the week (want to take it with natural light).

It certainly could be a nice collection on its own with 35 coins.

:) working towards this goal. Like with collecting anything, the later you get in the harder it is to chase the old stuff...

THE METEORITE NWA 267

Very first coin ever made with a meteorite insert.

Series: Stardust of the Universe (not sure, but looks likely)
Country: Liberia
Year: 2004
Meteorite: NWA 267
Face value: 10 Dollars
Metal purity: Silver .925
Weight: 61.2 g
Size: 50 mm
Mintage: 999 pcs
Mint: Coin Invest Trust (CIT)
Packaging (box, CoA, etc.): Comes with certificate of authenticity, do not know about presentation box

Notes (preserved as is on CIT's website):

Such a fragment of a "shooting star" is mounted on the coin. It is part of the Meteorite NWA (North West Africa) 267 (Registered Fall Number) found in the Sahara desert in September 2000. Debris of the Meteorite totalling 73,9 kg was found in the sand. Some samples were donated to and classified by the Academy of Sciences, at the Geochemistry and Analytical Institute, in Moscow.

Meteorite type: Stone Chlondrite H4 consists of condensed interstellar dust from the formation of our solar system 4.55 billion years ago. Under the microscope, experts can analyse polished slices to accurately classify the debris.

A Meteorite with an Iron/nickel alloy content of over 7% - is called - Iron Meteorite and with less then 7% of iron/nickel alloy is called - Stone meteorite H ( >93% non metallic minerals)

The temperature exposure during the fall through the Earth's atmosphere is classified by a scale of 3,4,5 and 6 caused by the impact of inner recrystallization and surface structures - Type 3 is below 600 °C, whereas type 6 shows evidence of temperatures up to 1000 °C.

Most Meteorites burn up due to the drag and friction involved - the falling speed can reach up to 50 - 70 km / sec in reference to the incoming angel.

Chlondrite Meteorites are up to six times rarer than iron Meteorites - of which 300 tons have been found coming from 60 different interstellar bodies.

This Meteorite fragment is believed to have come from the 6th asteroid "HEBE", diameter 195 km. According to the latest estimates approx.. 1,5 Mio Asteroids with a diameter of >1km are elements of the ASTEROIDS BELT!

Every day about 3000 tons of Meteoroid dust falls through the Earth's atmosphere!

METEORITE NANTAN

Meteorite-Coins

Series: Stardust of the Universe
Country: Palau
Year: 2006
Meteorite: Nantan
Face value: 5 Dollars
Metal purity: Silver .925
Weight: 25 g
Size: 38.61 mm
Mintage: 2,500 pcs
Mint: Coin Invest Trust (CIT)
Packaging (box, CoA, etc.): Comes in a themed tin box and with certificate of authenticity

Notes:

The fall of the Nantan meteorite was recorded in the year 1516: "Its fall was witnessed in May of Jiajing 11th year, during the reign of the Chinese Emperor Zhengde. Stars fell from the northwest direction, five to six folds long, waving like snakes and dragons. They were as bright as lightning and disappeared in seconds".

So far almost all the iron meteorites in the world have been discovered although no one witnessed their fall. The Nantan is an exception. The Chinese people actually saw the star falling 490 years ago. No one paid attention to the historical record about the fallen stars at Nantan until 1958, when China was in need of a lot of steel to push the country. To modernize China a five-year plan called "Great Leap Forward" was announced. During this period, everyone was told to look for iron ore. Even cooking pots were melted in back yards to produce steel.

Some farmers at Nantan, mainly Yao minority, were lucky enough to keep their kitchen tools by finding some heavy Fe-rich rocks. Unfortunately, the "iron ore" would not melt at the backyard steel factory, which puzzled the farmers. They reported this to the government and scientists. Researchers arrived and proved the "iron ore" to be iron meteorites. More than ten minerals have been found in the Nantan meteorites, dominantly kamacite and taenite. Secondary they contain plessite, scheribersite, triolite, graphite, spherlite, sideroferrite, dyslytite, cliftonite, and lawrencite.

WASHINGTON CATHEDRAL LUNAR ROCK

Metal purity: Silver .925
Weight: 50 g
Size: 50 mm
Mintage: 1,000 pcs
Mint: Allcollect
Packaging (box, CoA, etc.): Comes in a presentation box and with certificate of authenticity

Notes:

Washington National Cathedral is a cathedral of the Episcopal Church located in Washington, D.C. The construction began on September 29, 1907 and ended 83 years later. There are many works of art including over two hundred stained glass windows, the most familiar of which may be the Space Window, honoring man's landing on the Moon, which includes a fragment of lunar rock at its center; the rock was presented at the dedication service on 21 July 1974, the fifth anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission.

Struck in to the reverse of this coin is an image showing parts of the inside of the Washington Cathedral, with a plan of the layout of the church on the side. In the middle is a section, taken from within the cathedral, showing a beautifully designed stained-glass window. The name of the series, the city featured and the year of issue are all inscribed on this side.

The obverse features the stained-glass showing the image (on the window) in reverse. On this side, together with the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, you will find the country of issue and the face value.

The Windows of Heaven - Washington Cathedral Space Window, is struck from sterling silver and encapsulated, accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. It comes with a presentation case, which is doing a great job in staging this special coin.

2009 INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF ASTRONOMY

Meteorite-Coins

Series: none
Country: Australia
Year: 2009
Meteorite: Campo del Cielo
Face value: 5 Dollars
Metal purity: Silver .999
Weight: 50 g
Size: 50 mm
Mintage: 10,000 pcs
Mint: Royal Australian Mint
Packaging (box, CoA, etc.): Comes in a box and with certificate of authenticity

Notes:

A coin that is flawless in every feature. The obverse shows the planetary path within our solar system as it circles the sun, look closely to see our tiny moon alongside Planet Earth. We have also included a unique small form effigy of the Queen, which is gaining popularity with collectors.

The reverse symbolically illustrates the connection we all share with our planet through the use of famous landmarks from around the world in the design. You will recognise iconic places such as Mt Fuji, the Eiffel Tower, the Statue of Liberty and our own Opera House. Along with four faces looking towards the night sky as they reinforce the IYA message of a global community sharing our universe.

But the real star of this release are the pieces of meteorite encapsulated in the centre of each coin. The meteorite was part of a meteorite shower that fell to Earth around 4,000 years ago in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Composed mainly of iron, with trace elements of nickel, cobalt and phosphorous.

With certificate included, outlining the authenticity of the meteorite, and crafted in 50 grams of fine silver this large 50mm coin with low mintage will have a definite impact on your collection.

I generally do not appreciate coins which push boundaries with nonstandard modifications. However, because of the subject I do find these rather interesting, enough to say I could possibly own one of these. Yes, interesting indeed. Thank your for sharing them.

Precisely! I also kind of dislike step-outs and non-circulating coins, but these captivated me since I saw the first one.

METEORITE ABEE

Series: Cosmic Fireballs
Country: Fiji
Year: 2012
Meteorite: Abee
Face value: 10 Dollars
Metal purity: Silver .999
Weight: 20 g
Size: 40 mm
Mintage: 999 pcs
Mint: New Zealand Mint
Packaging (box, CoA, etc.): Comes in a box and with certificate of authenticity

Notes:

The year was 1952. Late in the evening on June ninth, the population in the Alberta, Canada province reported the sighting of a fireball in the sky. Moments later, explosions were heard followed by concussions or shock waves as a meteorite entered the Earth's atmosphere and landed in a farmer's wheat field.

When the impact site of this meteorite was located, searchers found a six-foot deep hole that was approximately three feet in diameter. Nestled at the bottom of this large hole appeared to be a large rock, which was crusted-over and black.

When scientists got a hold of this amazing find, they named it the Abee Meteorite.

The Abee meteorite had a number of weird minerals where oxygen is not around. In its place within the Abee meteorite was sulfur.

The inner structure of Abee meteorite had weird breccia. Basically, what this means is that the composition was like a rock, which had a number of pointy pieces in it that were cemented together in a matrix format.

The clastic form of the rocks reflects the meteor's makeup and in this case it had some metal in it. None of the other meteors discovered have this type of structure and is therefore classified as unusual.

The design incorporates a transparent half-circle locket containing real pieces of Abee's meteorite. The coin bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse. Each coin has been individually numbered and is therefore unique!

METEORITE BRENHAM

Series: Cosmic Fireballs
Country: Fiji
Year: 2012
Meteorite: Brenham
Face value: 10 Dollars
Metal purity: Silver .999
Weight: 20 g
Size: 40 mm
Mintage: 999 pcs
Mint: New Zealand Mint
Packaging (box, CoA, etc.): Comes in a box and with certificate of authenticity

Notes:

The Brenham meteorite is classified as a Pallasite but some specimens are all iron and are called Brenham Siderite. This meteorite was found in 1882 near Haviland, a small town between Wichita and Dodge City in Kansas.

Brenham, Kansas is the location of a meteorite crater, the Haviland Crater, that was explored by H. H. Ninninger in the early decades of the last century. All around the surrounding land have been found masses both large and small of this Pallasite. But, long before the farming of the mid-west and the finding of the first meteorites by settlers, the iron was being widely traded and used by the Native American population. Pieces of meteoritic iron originally from the Brenham area have been found in archeological sites over much of the eastern US. Some of the masses have large areas devoid of the peridot crystals while other portions are rich in the yellow-green colored gems. This Brenham Siderite meteorite has a beautiful Widmanstatten pattern when etched.

A collector named H.O. Stockwell, in 1949 discovered a mass of 450 kilograms (990 lb), known at the time as "The World's Largest Pallasite Meteorite." In October 2005, the meteorite dealer Steve Arnold located and recovered the largest fragment ever found of Brenham: a single pallasite mass of 650 kilograms (1,400 lb).

Metal purity: Silver .999
Weight: 20 g
Size: 40 mm
Mintage: 999 pcs
Mint: New Zealand Mint
Packaging (box, CoA, etc.): Comes in a box and with certificate of authenticity

Notes:

More than 100 meteorites, including one that weighed a record 1.9 tons, fell over 300 square miles of northeast China last month in one of the biggest meteorite showers in history.

The official news agency (NCNA) said although the area embraced six communes with a combined population of more than 100,000, the shower caused no loss of life or serious damage.
The shower occurred in the afternoon of March 8 when a large meteor entered the earth's atmosphere moving at about 7.5 miles per second. It began to burn as a result of the intense friction and was observed as a large fireball over Kirin (Jilin) City in northeastern Kirin (Jilin) Province.

NCNA said a survey team dispatched to the site by the Chinese Academy of Sciences collected hundreds of meteorites ranging in size from one pound to 3,894 pounds, the largest ever discovered.
The report said the last of the meteorites stabbed through nearly two yards of frozen soil, sank seven yards into the ground and formed a crater three yards deep and more than two yards in diameter.

METEORITE NEUSCHWANSTEIN

Series: Cosmic Fireballs
Country: Fiji
Year: 2012
Meteorite: Neuschwanstein
Face value: 10 Dollars
Metal purity: Silver .999
Weight: 20 g
Size: 40 mm
Mintage: 999 pcs
Mint: New Zealand Mint
Packaging (box, CoA, etc.): Comes in a box and with certificate of authenticity

Notes:

A large meteorite fall in southern Germany on April 6, 2002 was captured by camera stations of the European Fireball Network (EN) which routinely monitors the night sky over central Europe. From analysis of the images, a prediction on the geographic location of the meteorite strewn field could be made. Following systematic ground searches in difficult high-mountain terrain, three fragments of a rare EL6 enstatite chondrite were recovered during search campaigns in the summers of 2002 and 2003. Neuschwanstein is the fourth meteorite fall in history that has been photographed by fireball networks and the fragments of which have been found subsequently. It is the first time since the beginning of the EN operation in the early sixties that the photographic observations have made a meteorite recovery possible.
