I'm not sure how to grade gold; As they increase in weight, more dings, marks and hits are allowed for the grade, correct? I do own a graded $10 MS63, which is better looking than this one, but comparing to other double eagle 63's, I see a wide range of conditions, both better and worse than mine... How would you grade this, and why? thanks in advance   |

Good Pictures showing most of what we need to see to answer your question. Perhaps a little better shot of the cheek of Liberty would help.
From what I can see you have lots and lots of little light abrasions, but I don't see a single EVIL hit that jumps off the screen. In some cases you can find a MS-63 Liberty that looks a lot like yours, but has one really mean hit that is distracting even if the balance of the coin isn't bad.
I much prefer what you are showing, and I would not be surprised at all seeing this coin in a PCGS or NGC MS-63 holder. You'll have a few folks that might answer lower, simply because your coin does have many small abrasions, but I think in real terms a 63 would not surprise me.

I really wish more people would post pre-1933 gold for grading, especially $20 gold pieces.
MS62. I'm still an amateur on grading these pre-1933's

Here is a sample I have for comparison, yours looks a little nicer.., I'd say at least a 63  |

I am happy with MS62 or 3. The most serious hits are exactly where you would expect to find them:
on the cheek of Liberty, but they don't really detract all that much.
Nice luster.

It looks like a MS63 in the images. Could drop to MS62 if the luster is subdued.
