Can someone please take a look at these pics.. I have looked and looked for hours and I don't see any others like this one.. Part of the W actually looks like an S on this 1942 Mercury dime.

Any help is appreciated.

It took a hit, causing damage. Normal Dime.

Do you see the extra lines under the E and near the rim.. It kind of reminded of the spear in the Buffalo nickel. Thanks so much for taking the time to look.. Can you tell me how you can tell that for future reference.. I am pretty new to looking for errors though I have been collecting for several years.. Thanks again!

Many error experts on the forum will know best, but I presume this coin was deeply cut or scratched from the W diagonally down to the rim. The ridges left on both sides of the cut became worn and somewhat flattened as the coin circulated. You have a common, circulated silver dime with post-mint damage ( PMD).

Hi, I believe Jaobler is correct. It is PMD that has seen circulation to soften it.
