I have no idea what to make of this I'm new to the coin forum. I was pointed here as a place to find more info as my own searches have turned up nothing about this coin.

Thoughts?

The date is cut off but I think the big coin says 1990. I have no idea is this is an error or a commemorative coin or what exactly it is at all. Any replies are greatly appreciated

to CCF. Looks like someone had some time on their hands. Looks cool. I guess you could be funny and call it a plugged nickel

It is a post-mint defacement/alteration, only the creator could tell you why it was done.

You can buy a novelty set of miniature coins at some stores. They are of course reproductions and not actual shrunken coins.

Somebody was very, very bored. Looks like they plated a genuine nickel in gold, measured the mini nickel, drilled a hole of corresponding size into the plated nickel, and smashed the mini nickel into said hole. Looks like they have also attempted to melt them together.

No extra value, but that is the coolest post-mint damage I think I have ever seen.

Rest in Peace

That's a fun find.

Keep it. If you're not a collector, just hang onto it until you meet one some day. It's probably worth a dollar or two at best.

I've bought some miniature money. It's fun. But it's hard for me to spend more than a dollar on altered coin that is just for fun.
