61 dollars shipped. NGC price guide says 70, but I believe thats the higher end of the price range, correct? this is probably my largest coin purchase, excluding silver bullion. also, I would like to put this in my silver dollar dansco album, so id like to hear your recommendations for removing it from the slab. I'm planning on just using wire cutters. thanks

I've heard of people using a band saw or wrapping the slab in a towel and gingerly hitting it with a hammer. I would be careful no matter what method you chose. Many more people will share the methods that have worked for them. Set it free!

Looks around average for the grade...albiet weak strikes

The cheapest I have found this coin recently is $48. Link here --> 171995850845

So at $61.90, I don't think you did too badly.

Safety glasses and a hammer has always worked for me.

Put on the safety glasses as flying plastic pieces can cause injury. Place the edge of the slab in a grove in a concrete sidewalk. Gently tap the edge of the slab till it begins to crack. Rotate the slab 90 degrees and continue tapping. Keep doing that till you can seperate the slab. If the slab is being cranky you can use a flat edge screwdriver to continue breaking the slab. Carefully remove the retaining ring holding the coin being careful not to scratch the coin.

This has always worked for me and I still have my eyesight! I've heard of people using bandsaws, vise grips etc.... just be careful and wear eye protection with whatever method you use. Good luck!

I wrap it in a paper towel and then whack it with a hammer.

Good price... Greysheet bid/ask (Oct 30th) is $55/$60.

And I bet it looks even nicer in person!

But I wouldn't break the slab just to fill a Dansco slot. It's worth more in the slab, easier to trade/sell.

If you wanted an '04-O raw in 63ish, I would have sold you a raw one for $20 less... No point to buying slabbed coins in lower grades and cracking them out, you're paying for the plastic you're just going to ruin.

IMHO, keep it in the slab. I believe that you can find a nicer looking, raw Morgan with a less bagmarked obverse for less money.

Agree, leave it be - easier to sell if you decide to upgrade someday.
