Quote: It appears the certificates of authenticity (COAs) for each coin had a glaring error: Jim and Huck were noted as being from Adventures of Tom Sawyer when they are really from Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
The error was noticed late into production, so the Mint will have to produce new COAs for the effected coins. Ah, another printing error. That did not stop them with the LBJ C&C last year.

My thought is that the Mint decided it would be easier to scrap the old CoAs and print new ones than get egg in their face over the error. As for the LBJ C&C set, it was probably too late in production and too expensive to replace the packaging. I suppose now we'll have to pay attention to the Twain silver dollar CoAs to see if any error ones still get through!

Thanks CelticKnot! I thought the 2015 $5 Marshall to be a superb design as well. I haven't bought any $5 commems in a while, now a bunch are out with great designs - US Marshalls, Twain, and National Park Centennial! Maybe when gold dips some more. I actually emailed the CCAC just to see what they would say about that cluttered Twain $1 Silver. Mary Lannin, the chair of CACC had this to say: Quote: The legislation for this coin program series required us to consult with a larger than normal number of liaisons for their input regarding the designs.
After our committee voted on the selections, the designs were presented to and voted on by the Committee on Fine Arts.
Each Committee Chair then writes to the Secretary of the Treasury, Jacob Lew, who is responsible for making the final selection after receiving the input of both committees.
I appreciate your comments about the $1 coin, and I am happy you agree with me that the $5 gold has been so well-received.

Thanks for the CACC insight, one_fine_dime. It makes sense.

Well, the Twain $5 proof and uncirculated gold coins are on sale today at 12 noon EST.
Is anyone here buying one or two today?

Nope. I'm saving for long beach cherrypicking right now. If they last I might grab one or two down the road

I only have the money for one right now, so unc first, as they can be wildly uneven in terms of quality. A fresh coin off of new dies should not have the problems I've seen with every gold unc I've bought from the Mint. Proof generally seem not to have quality issues as the unc.

My thought to is to go for the uncirculated, but rather because I'd like to get the proof as part of the Twain two-coin proof set, should it ever go on sale.

Zzzzzz. Got the unc in 30 sec flat with no waiting at 12:01pm. No one cares apparently and this is a decently designed gold commem for a change.

I ordered my uncirculated gold coin a few minutes ago. I didn't expect any web site issues, and did not experience any. I agree that it's a nicely-designed coin and worthy of attention, but it did not receive the dealer/grading service hype that the Baseball HOF coins did so I didn't expect collectors to go wild the moment it became available.

I'm much more interested in the silver anyway due to his younger days living in Virginia City. Sure the Comstock had some gold too but it was all about the silver

I'll be holding off for a few months but will definitely grab one. Probably the uncirculated since that's what my my US Marshals is.

I've purchased a number of modern commemoratives directly from the mint, and then found the same "products" much cheaper after market (i.e., ebay) months or years later. Is it primarily about having the new coins as soon as they are released that you are willing to pay more, or is there some other reason you like to buy directly from the US Mint?
