Is there any differences in the obverse of the coins? I can't tell the difference between them when looking at pictures without the reverse

what I see:
the date size and font appear different.
The sun rays are a little longer on the ASE.
Liberty's right foot (the one behind her) appears raised more on the ASE.

Doesn't the date give it away? The obverse design was copied of course but no dates correspond and the size is vastly different.

Other than the date and it's hard to tell the size from pictures without putting something by the coin for comparison.

Purely subjective:
Value / condition vs value / condition,
although you can have both,
give me a walker half any day!

Here are pictures of WLH and ASE. I tried to find the ones with matching rotation.

also the IGWT looks a little smaller font on the ASE.

Why didn't they make a new design or at least make Liberty walking the other way?

Maybe it's just the kid in me but I love the fact that the two obverses, in the same mint state can be placed side by side and there's WL and there's mini-WL
Rest in Peace

, But as long as they did copy the WLH design ,why didn't they make the ASE with a strong left thumb ?
Rest in Peace

They resurrected a design that was loved by a huge following. Same with St. Gaudens for the gold. They played it safe.

Take a look at the strike at the hand holding the branch stem and head detail. On the unc WL half these areas are either indistinct, merged into the body or mushy, whereas the on the ASE it's generally sharp and defined. Branch mint halves are particularly susceptible to weak strikes on the high points as they correspond to the high points on the reverse. ASEs have no such striking problems.

I'm trying hard to make my ASE look like a circulated Walker. About two weeks in my pocket and on my shelf. I just been treating it like it was just another coin in my change pocket beside leaving it out at night to get some fresh air and a tiny amount of sulfur.

It will be interesting to see if it collects dirt and toning in the same places. I garden a lot and I prob handle it without washing my hands some :). Got to get it the blue collar treatment like it would had in the Great Depression.

I also wish they would had kept the same reverse. Or atleast design a eagle that took up most of the back and was more like a eagle and less of a heraldic eagle. Or chooses not a heraldic eagle more akin to the lean fighting eagles of earlier US coinage. That one looks like someone force fed it, then killed it and mounted it to the wall by the wings. Poor eagle. I dislike the eagle on this coin, the quarter and the current half for the same reason. So lifeless.
