There is a show on Fxx called The League. We shall not go into the details of the show - you either watch it or you do not - but the show follows a group of friends who are in an eight-man fantasy football league. This year one of the plot points was the need to fill the eighth spot after a recent death, with the friends deciding to use a coin flip to fill it (trying to beat random chance). Again, you either watch it or you do not, so bear with me. The coin has been difficult to see, until this week, when it is shown sitting on the league commissioner's desk... Do you see what I see? Never would have guessed that on an American show. Remember, discuss the coin, not the show.

God I love that show, FOREVERRRR UNCLEEEEAAAANNNNN
Wow, very interesting. For a start they must have gone out of their way to get that, unlike in the UK there aren't thousands of the buggers lying around to just pick up!
Maybe there is something behind the reason that they used a Churchill coin, which is possibly one of the ugliest and plainest commemorative coins ever made available haha.

Looks like the 1965 "Death of Churchill" coin? I got a bunch in a lot I bought. Too bad they aren't worth much at all. Very interesting!

That coin is the first time someone other than a Monarch was depicted on British money. Not sure if that angle plays into the plot of the show or not.

I do not think there is a plot significance to the coin selection. Perhaps it is just something personal to the prop director.
Next week is the series finale. If something comes up in reference to its significance I will report it.

these show up in $1 bins all the time. I would bet the props assistant was told to find a big coin cheap. One coin shop I go to often has 50 or more in a tray on the counter UNC for $1.50 Circ $1.00

Series finale last night! The Coin made its final appearance and this time we got to see "heads" on the flip... Spoiler alert: No significance of this coin choice was ever revealed. It was probably, as speculated, bought from a junk bin on the cheap.

sorry, I was mistaken, what I meant to say was that it was the first coin in the UK, to be minted with a non-royal family and a monarch. at least that is what I read online, and everything we read online is always 100% correct right?
