I have spent five Presidential dollars, three Susan B Anthony dollars, seven Sacagawea/Native American dollars, and five Ikes over the past couple of weeks in exchange for various goods, mainly at a local coffee shop and a convenience store with cashiers who really like the coins. $91,664 to go

This is what I posted back in May: Quote: I'm going to post the Ike count periodically (currently 376) so that when people actually do spend them we don't have to go back through dozens of pages looking for the previous number. Guess what I just did? As it turns out, this is the first time since then that Ikes have been spent. The total is now 381 Ike$ spent.

Quote: That must have been quite an experience! I actually didn't know that it had happened until it was over and the suspect had already fled. This is my Friday half dollar pick up bank and I was there last night getting my 4 boxes of halves. I asked the teller about a mailer I got about $300 for opening a checking account there and I said I would stop in there today and set it up. I was sitting with my back to the door with the banker taking care of the paperwork when a teller came over and said she had just been robbed. They locked the bank down until the cops came and we all had to wait there for a while. Remember to be aware of your surroundings no matter where you are which is why you should keep a safe distance when stopped in traffic (in case you get rearended so as not to cause a multi car pileup in front of you or if you need to quick pull off if some stuff goes down around you) and sit with a view of the door if possible so if some stuff goes down you will have a head start to get out that situation.

The total is now 381 Ike$ spent. Thanks for tracking the Ikes! I must admit having mixed feelings about spending them because I like Eisenhower dollars a lot. But, after obtaining them from my friendly neighborhood bank teller, I had checked them for any die varieties, key dates, great condition, etc. And it was really fun seeing how various folks reacted when I handed them a big old coin they had never seen before (for some of them at least). Plus, I got to play history teacher when a young lady asked "Who is that?" (pointing at President Eisenhower). I was proud of myself as I resisted the temptation to go into prickly pedantic mode about the poor state of history education in our country.

If I spent a gold dollar for lunch I would kill myself. That is worse than dropping a $20 gold piece down sewer grate. If I spent any gold coin at face value to buy something I would have my wife check me in a VA hospital psychiatric ward. Am I missing the point of this topic. I understand spending SBA dollar or even an IKE, but beyond that is evidence for being declared mentally incompetent thus losing your right for "concealed carry" in Florida which you need in this madhouse state. I am sort of kidding and mean no offense because anybody can do what they like with their coins and who is to judge........ME! Send me those gold dollars and I will give you two dollars before you put them in machine or gas tank, hypothetically speaking.
