Did you compare your coin to coppercoins or doubleddie.com?

Red arrows are pointing to hits or damage to the coin
1954-S/S-+-DDO-Liberty

The only one with doubling on liberty is the 1954S-1DO-002

Which has a big line coming out the top of the L and a the top and bottom coming out of the TY in Liberty

compare your coin to this link
http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=mds

Also note most DDO have a double part on bottom of the 4 not present also.

1954-S/S-+-DDO-Liberty

it as a small chance it might be a rpm 1954S-1MM-007 but pictures are not clear enough to tell

Also note the only the notch on top end of the s and the extra curve in the top of the s are the re-punched parts those other lines on right side are common to all S mint punches

Thank you Ocala, you put so much time into your reply for me and I really appreciate it.

Unfortunately, my coin does not have the markers you indicated or the website with the scratches on the Reverse.

So I guess it would be MD? it is just strange that it would be just on the Liberty - unless Liberty is stamped from a separate die?

The MM I was thinking was 1954S-1MM-008 but those don't match either. I didn't know I could click on the MDS/LDS for more details and pictures (thanks for showing me that).

Should I consider sending it to Wexler for a look at liberty and the MM?

What I do

if its not there I move on to the next coin... the more you check the more you see/learn.

If I still think it a maybe something I label an empty coin tube - Possible Varieties--

Add the coin to the roll and move on.

I started in feb of 2014 and now I go back to rolls that I pulled md, PMD and all sort of weird stuff out of and now I find DDO, rpm ,ddr etc.

After a few months revisit the rolls and by them you will know..

Reading other people threads and posts was the key for me.

Indents on a coin doesn't make it a DDO. They are contact marks from circulation.

On a RPM look for areas where the punch made a second punching (it will be raised on the coin) I'm seeing evidence of punch damage when the die was created. To tell the difference, looks to see if the shape matches the punch, just a folding over from a damaged punch. If you get a OBW roll, you will often see the same thing on all the coins, but in different locations. This shows the punch was damaged and was used on different dies. So if you find this on a roll, then know it is very common.
