Some of you might remember that I found 2 1950-D in the beginning of this year. Well tonight the 3rd popped up. The same boxes produced 2 wartimers, and 27 pre-59ers.   |

Actually I'm always amazed at some of the really high quality older coins that we find. Like Deltron's 38 or Yinzi50's 50-D. I have a really nice '38 I found too (any of my pre-60's are AU or close to it) and I can only imagine that they've come out of someone's dumped collection.

I have a pretty nice 1938 as well. pics to follow later.
Its been awhile since I last posted anything but here are the results from my last two boxes.
Box 1
33 pre 1960's
Incl. 43-D war, 46-S, and Canadian beaver 1947 (maple leaf variety)
Box 2
21 pre 1960's
Incl. 3 wars (43-P, 44-P, 45-P), VF-EF 1940 (with what appears to be full steps, & 2 Guatemalan 10 centavos coins (1981 & 1997)
Nickels yet to find in circulation
2009 P & D, 38-D, 44-S, and the ever elusive 50-D

I believe that I just found the rarest Nickel for myself: 1936 Buffalo proof. There were only 4,420 made.

THREE 1950d's? Through 18K rolls I have found a grand total of one! Yeah, spread the wealth!
And please post a photo of that Proof! Need to get a look at that.
I have four updates coming in the next few days. Would like to be at 19,000 by the end of August.

After a long break from nickels, I did a box last night...
3 - wars
Canadian and Bahamas 5 cents.
Not bad for silver, usually average about 1 a box.
Oh yea, got a 1938 and 1939 last night. Heart skipped a beat but when I flipped them, no MM :(

I'm working on my 5th box of nickels since I started roll searching. This one is the best one yet. Roll #7 - 1911 Liberty nickelRoll #8 - 1906 Liberty nickelRoll #10 - 1912 Liberty nickel & 2000 British 20 Pence. I've only been doing a few rolls per day, but I may have to just finish it off tonight. |

Uhhhmmm ..... not sure how you know that is a proof 1936?  From here it appears to be a reasonably well preserved coin ... grading perhaps Fine .. but by what diagnostics do you judge it to be a proof? Inquiring minds want to know.  David Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art |

Well, it's nothing too special - except to me - but I found my first dateless Buffalo roll searching last night. I wasn't sure whether to post it here in the nickel searching thread or as a new topic over in classic coins though. It's not like it is all that rare or anything - it's just a personal accomplishment for me. I've got it soaking in vinegar now, if dates come out, I'll put up some pics.

I went through a box this weekend. Nothing much to report except a 1939 in VF. It's not a rarity, but it's an upgrade for me. I still need 7 more...and I'm still waiting for my first V-nikcel.
I did have 10 2010 nickels in this box. Some quite nice and shiny, some looking like they have seen some circulation already.

Pinenut, From the survey I am doing, I find V nickels come in bunches. I found 9 in one box about a year ago. Somebody dumps the wrong roll at the bank and suddenly there are 40 Liberty nickels in circulation, all from the same place. Edited by copper nickel daddy
