Just did my first roll search of Jefferson nickels. Sorted through 5 rolls (200 coins). I am keeping all nickels 61 and earlier (thats where book one ends on Whitman folder), any 2009's and anything 1961 - 1987 in MS w/full steps. Results: Two keepers. One 1961-D, and one 2009-D ! . Nothing else worth anything more than 7.2 cents apiece... Out of 200 coins, (in San Diego), 194 coins were "D" mintmark, 4 were Philadelphia, and 2 were "S" mint. (97% D) Looks like nickels don't circulate nationally any better than cents! On the bright side, when I finally catch a 1950 - maybe that means it will be a 50-D!

Excellent .... welcome to the nickel searching thread LastGold! Quote: Just did my first roll search of Jefferson nickels I'm filling the same Whitman 9009 folder .... Jefferson 1938-1961 ... still have two open holes. Best of luck with your roll searches and look forward to all your future reports. David

Out of $20 searched I found a 1957-P Jefferson and that is it! Also, why can't I find any nickels from '61 '62 or '63? I have found '39 through '60 (not all mint marks) but cannot Find the first 3 years of the 60s

$80 of NF String rolls and $40 of CWR yesterday gave a 1945P, a couple dozen common older jeffersons, a BU 1964, and 4 2009D.

Quote:found my first 1943d! It took me 98 War Nickels found roll searching to pull this one so it was tough Wow ... Congratulations on that one! I have the statistics (after 238,000 nickels searched)to demonstrate that the 1943-D is the #1 toughest Jefferson to pull from circulation today. Soooo ... I have found 83 War Silver so far ... and still need that darn 43-D. Still need the 38-S as well for a complete roll-found circulation strike set 1938-2010. BTW .... forum member DylansDad is somehow the King of 43-D ... at last count I believe he has roll-found 5 of these! Anyways ... Great Find and best wishes on your 50-D David

Very nice finds, Ricardo! I myself had an excellent box today. It was an NF String box I found about 20 older jeffersons including semi-rarities such as the 1948S, 1949S, and 1942D (not silver) I also found a 1997S. My first proof nickel! No War Nickels in this box, but I did find a 1927 Buffalo with corroded looking fields, but a bold date. I'll take a buffalo over any War Nickel, to be honest

Took a roll home from work last night and came away with a 1944s. I'll try and upload pictures when I get home from work. 35% silver correct?

Went through 5 rolls or CWR and found a beautiful(ms 62-63?) 1940. I know they're common but a coin 70 years old in that great a condition is rare! It even had 4 or 5 complete steps(with these old eyes and only 10x loupe it's very hard to tell for sure).
