Nice pull there, phil. I'm still on the hunt for the 50d and the 39d...just those 2 and i'll finish off my circulated set to the present. Of course, 2012 will roll by before I find those two, which will add another pair of nickels i'll need...

Awesome coin phil. I think it's actually rarer that you found that nickel so beat up. seems like most of the others that people find are au or bu. These coins were most pulled from circulation a long time ago when people saw how low mintages were. so for this date to get well circulated like that is not so common to find. I'd love to find that date in circulation in any condition!

Pulled a 38-S today. It has been a hole in my album for a long time. I am down to the 50-D now and all from circulation.

Yeah, any 50-D is better than no 50-D!

I haven't had much luck with War Nickels lately. But today when I went to the bank for a box of nickels I saw a silver rim in the teller tray. Turned out it was a 1946 Walking Liberty half dollar! That's my first silver half from circulation.

My son and I did two boxes last night. His only keeper was a 1944P hole filler. My only keeper was a 1958p upgrade. Disappointing.

Jon, I would be disappointed with most of my boxes if I only kept certain coins like you guys. Thats the beauty of keeping everything pre 1959: every box has many keepers. :)

My boxes used to yield at least 15-30 pre-59 nickels. Now it seems I'm lucky if I can pull 10 out of a box. I havent seen a buffalo in about a year and a half, pulled 2 wars in the last 10 boxes. Pickings are definitely slim in my area lately.

murrellington,

My son and I call that coin hoarding.

jedichef,

Perhaps that is due to coin hoarding.

I am a hoarder, but every now and then I go through my pre60s nickels and cull them.

jedichef, what state are you in? I pull an average of 30 pre-1960 nickels. War Nickels all but disappeared though.
